The Springfield Shooters eked out a 5-4 win versus the Ithaca Fighting Imps at Springfield Stadium. Nobody did more than first baseman Gerald Johnston, who captured player of the game honors. Tom Peña picked up the save for Springfield, his 1st of the year. The Fighting Imps drop to 4-6 and continue their inconsistent start to the 2040 season.
Springfield took a 4-3 lead on Dao-zi Zhan's 12th hit of the season. The run-scoring single, which Zhan hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Ithaca pitcher Alberto Cruz shaking his head.
"I just try to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Johnston.
