Mercer Island beat Lake Minnetonka on the strength of starter William Bruce's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a 4-2 win. Mercer Island is now 5-5.

Ricardo Varela helped out the Mercer Island cause in the bottom of the fifth inning with a 2-run double. For the game, the designated hitter went 1-3 with a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.

Lake Minnetonka manager Burton Storey said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
