Miyake Touches All Bases, Hits for Cycle
|
Jiro Miyake accomplished one of the rarer feats in baseball today when he hit for the cycle against the Biloxi Shuckers in the 9-5 Lancaster Farmers win at The Pizza Oven.
Afterward, Miyake acknowledged that his accomplishment was special, but said he was more interested in helping the Farmers win.
"Maybe one day I'll look back on this with more meaning, but right now I just want to go out tomorrow and put some good swings on the ball and help my club win another game," Miyake said.
On his historic day, he went 4-for-4 with 5 RBI and 3 runs scored -- and also got a spot in the history books.
Jiro Miyake hit a two-run double in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Félix Fernández in the 5th, walked in the 7th and hit a two-run triple in the 8th.
So far this season, Miyake has recorded a .285 batting average with 73 hits, 8 home runs, 41 RBIs, 45 runs scored and a .391 OBP.
