Virginia Beach withstood an impressive performance by Biloxi center fielder Dave Bauer to defeat the Shuckers, 8-7, at Virginia Beach Grounds. Bauer went 4-4 with a double and 3 singles. John Stevens earned the save, his 2nd, for the Whales. At 40-41, Virginia Beach is in 7th place in the Silver AA.

Had Dave Thomas not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Thomas hit a 2-run double. That made the score 7-5, in favor of the Whales.

"Winning the game is always the first objective," Thomas said.
