Farmers Lose to Whales in Walk Off
|
The Virginia Beach Whales knocked off the Lancaster Farmers, 6-5, at Virginia Beach Grounds. Asberry Harpending, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Virginia Beach won. The catcher went 2-4 with 2 singles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Virginia Beach is now 36-34.
Harpending had a game-changing single in the bottom of the tenth. On a first pitch fastball from Mike Dean, he banged a run-scoring single to left, giving the Whales a 6-5 lead. It was the 21st hit of the year for Harpending.
"What a great win for our team," said a jubilant Bernie Drake, the Virginia Beach manager.
