Whales Lose, 8-7, at Loony Bin
|
The Minnesota Loons outlasted Sergio San Martín and the Virginia Beach Whales, 8-7. San Martín was impressive in the loss. The Virginia Beach second baseman went 2 for 5 with a home run and a double. He drove in 6 runs and scored once. Billy Limby got the win, improving to 2-2. He held the Whales to 3 earned runs on 6 hits over 7.1 innings, while striking out 2 and walking 3. The Loons move to 31-32 with the win, while the Whales drop to 31-32.
With Minnesota leading 7-3 in the bottom of the eighth, Ronald Hancock hit a run-scoring single off Virginia Beach pitcher Arvid Alberink. It put the Loons ahead 8-3.
In postgame comments to the Minnesota Times, Hancock said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
