Whales Clip Loons in Tight Contest
The Minnesota Loons got a superb performance from pitcher John Lee. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Virginia Beach. The Whales won the game, 7-6. In spite of the loss, Lee was named the player of the game. He threw 5 innings allowing 2 runs. Virginia Beach reliever Mike Park picked up the win, upping his record to 5-1. Pjotr de Moor was saddled with the loss. The 6th-place Whales have won 7 straight.

Virginia Beach used the timely hitting of Pat Geldart to capture the win. The first baseman socked a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Whales ahead, 7-6. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.

"It wasn't our best performance," said Geldart, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
