Whales Get One-Run Win at Atlantic City
|
With left fielder Alfonso Cabedo leading the charge, the Virginia Beach Whales defeated the Atlantic City Sonics, 6-5, at Sonics Ballpark. Cabedo, who is tied for 10th in the SAA in RBI with 25, was 2 for 3 with 2 singles and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Ed Alexander picked up the win, improving his season record to 4-1. He struck out 2 in 6 innings. Kenny Hunt closed it out for his 8th save.
Virginia Beach relied on the hitting of Jamal Grant to pick up the win. The center fielder clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Whales on top, 4-0. For the game, Grant had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Virginia Beach manager Bernie Drake.
Virginia Beach, now 21-25, holds 7th place in the Silver AA.
