The Akron Blimps handed the Virginia Beach Whales a loss at Virginia Beach Grounds. The final score was 8-7. Bob Giles was named player of the game for Akron. In addition to his 1 single and 1 home run, he scored 1 run and drove in 3. Vicente López got credit for the win, improving to 2-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. Mamadou Boutin earned the save for Akron, his 10th of the year.
Dave Hill drew 1 walk in 4 trips to the plate for Akron. The 23-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the top of the eighth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 6-6 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Quan Yang. It was his 24th RBI of the season.
"This team is on a mission," said Giles, who is one of the clubhouse leaders. "I like our focus."
At 28-16, Akron is in first place in the Silver AA.
