Blue Sox Win at Atlantic City, 3-1
|
Irving and Atlantic City played a hard-fought contest at Sonics Ballpark.
The Atlantic City Sonics got a superb performance from pitcher Heath Brown. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Irving. The Blue Sox won the game, 3-1. In spite of the loss, Brown was named the player of the game. He threw 6 innings of 5-hit ball. Miguel Pérez, who went 5.2 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 1 run on 6 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 7. His record now stands at 4-4. Bob Bolen earned the save, his 8th, for the Blue Sox.
Irving took advantage of an error in the top of the third inning. The game was tied, 0-0, when Rick Newell hit a 2-run single that was misplayed. It put Irving in front, 2-0.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Newell, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
The Blue Sox, at 15-24, sit in last place in the Silver AA.
