Yakima withstood an impressive performance by Virginia Beach first baseman Pat Geldart to defeat the Whales, 8-7, at Hops Park. Geldart was 1 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. The winner was Yakima reliever Ryan Price, now 2-1. The loser was Kenny Hunt. The 4th-place Hops improved to 18-18.
When he came to bat in the bottom of the ninth, Denis Taylor had a chance to end it. Virginia Beach pitcher Kenny Hunt had other ideas. But with one out, Taylor drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Hops had the win.
"This wasn't a good win," said Taylor. "It was a great win."
