Rails Need Extras to Top Pilgrims
|
The Richland Rails beat the Providence Pilgrims, 7-6, at Rails Ballpark. The win was largely due to the efforts of designated hitter Oscar Henson, who captured player of the game honors. He was 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Richland reliever Ryan Neal was the winner. His record is now 2-0. Umebayashi Naofumi took the loss. Richland bumps their record to 63-39 with the win.
Richland took a 7-6 lead on Vinnie Nuyten's 114th hit of the season. The run-scoring single, which Nuyten hit in the bottom of the 11th, left Providence pitcher Umebayashi Naofumi visibly frustrated.
In postgame comments to the Richland Citizen, Henson said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
