Nationals Score Late, Upend Highlanders, 9-8
|
The Ottawa Nationals did just enough to secure a 9-8 victory over the Asheville Highlanders at Nationals Park. Nobody did more than designated hitter Alex Warner, who captured player of the game honors. Ottawa reliever Jim Maxwell was credited with the win, to go to 4-6. Jeffery Johnston took the loss for Asheville. Ottawa has now won 4 straight, while the Highlanders have lost 3 in a row.
Manuel Barrera was the walk-off hero for Ottawa. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Nationals shortstop hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"I felt good up there," said Barrera. "I saw the ball well."
