Thomas Helps Rails Run Win Streak to 5
|
The Richland Rails beat the Barton Springs Blues, 6-1, at Rails Ballpark. Richland right fielder Wilbur Thomas earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He went 2-2 with 2 home runs and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. Gary Podell, credited with the win, is now 4-1. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 6.1 innings. The first-place Rails, at 59-31, now lead their division by 3½ games.
Thomas put Richland up, 4-1, when he hit a 2-run home run off James Hall in the bottom of the fifth. His 3rd home run of the season helped the Rails capture the win.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Thomas told the Richland Citizen.
