Pilgrims Lose, 4-3, at Atoms Field

Both teams had their chances, but the Bethesda Atoms eventually prevailed at Atoms Field.
Bethesda starter Ken Richmond pitched effectively against the Providence Pilgrims at Atoms Field. The right-hander led his team to a 4-3 win. In 7 innings, Richmond surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 2. He allowed 3 runs. Jeffery Clayton got the save, the 10th for him this season.
The Atoms got a big at-bat from third baseman Jorge Gardella. For the game, Gardella was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the fifth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run single. His 11th hit of the season gave Bethesda a 4-2 lead.
"We found a way to get it done," Gardella said.
The Pilgrims have now dropped 5 straight.
