Miners Score Late, Top Polar Bears, 6-4
|
Billings got a terrific performance from pitcher Travis Tillis, but it wasn't enough to beat the Marquette Miners. Marquette won the The Igloo contest, 6-4. Tillis was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 5 innings of 3-hit ball. Marquette reliever Bailey Borrett picked up the win, upping his record to 5-0. Franck Perrault absorbed the loss. Javier Benavides earned the save, his 6th, for the Miners.
Marquette used the clutch hitting of David Alcabú to capture the win. The third baseman drilled a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to give the Miners the lead, 6-4. For the game, Alcabú had 1 single and 2 doubles in 5 at-bats.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Alcabú told the Marquette Observer.
Marquette is 34-25 and Billings, with the loss, 29-30.
