Miners Come Up Short at Barton Springs
|
Marquette got a terrific game from third baseman David Alcabú. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Barton Springs, 6-5. Alcabú was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Francisco Esposo picked up the save, his 2nd. With the win, Barton Springs elevates its record to 3-4.
Barton Springs took a 6-5 lead on Rutland Stones's 3rd hit of the season. The run-scoring single, which Stones hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Marquette pitcher Mike Tate shaking his head.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Marquette manager Christos Galpin. "But we decided not to take it."
