Rainbow Mermaids Stumble, Lose to Evergreens
|
The Portland Evergreens and starting pitcher Giovanni Mireles stifled the Northern Virginia offense en route to a comfortable 8-2 win at Atlantica. Mireles, now 1-0, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 7, walking 1, and allowing 1 earned run. Losses have been few and far between for the Rainbow Mermaids, who are now 5-1.
The result might have been different for Portland, had it not been for Jeff Solís. The first baseman produced a bases-clearing double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Evergreens ahead, 7-0. For the game, Solís had 2 doubles and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"Enjoyed this one," Mireles told the Portland Herald. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
