Visscher Slugs 84s to 10-4 Win
|
The Greenville 84s trumped the Portland Evergreens, 10-4, at 84s Field. Greenville first baseman Philip Visscher was named player of the game for his performance. He went 3 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. Zadock Dinkelmann earned the win for Greenville. He lasted 6.2 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 9 hits, while striking out 4. With the win, he raised his record to 2-4. The Evergreens, now 24-29, have lost 6 in a row.
The Evergreens had been locked in a 4-4 tie with the 84s going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 30-year old center fielder Sigi Lang came to the plate. Lang hit a 2-run single on a 1-2 fastball from Portland hurler John Walton. It was Lang's 26th hit of the year.
"We came out aggressive," said 84s manager John Bosma. "We came out swinging the bats."
