The exploits of first baseman Wally Briggs, who is tied for 2nd in the PAAA in triples with 5, helped the Alaskan Humpbacks defeat the Baton Rouge Brass, 5-2. Briggs went 4 for 5 with a home run and 2 doubles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The winner was Ramon Wuilink in relief. His record improves to 2-3. Tracy Cowdin took the loss. The Humpbacks move to 54-33 with the win, while the Brass drop to 42-45.
Alaskan took a 4-2 lead on Briggs's 14th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which he hit off Aksel Svendsen in the top of the sixth, propelled Alaskan to the win.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Briggs told the Alaskan Times.
