The Bakersfield Nobles got a magnificent performance from pitcher Carlos Vargas, who muffled the Syracuse offense en route to a tight 2-1 Nobles win at Jerome Grounds. The Starks, now 19-59, have lost 4 in a row.
Serious Lee drove in one run for Bakersfield. The 31-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring hit-by-pitch off Dave McAlear. It was his 38th RBI of the season.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Lee, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
