A nice crowd turned out to see the Sacramento Redlegs and Jersey City Tritons clash at Jersey City Grounds.

Bob Shepard never let the Tritons get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his slider, to pitch the Redlegs to a 5-1 win. Shepard, the winner, moves to 3-2. He threw 8 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 2 walks.

Sacramento used the bat of Nigel Sturges to get the win. The second baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Redlegs ahead, 5-1. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.

"I found a nice groove out there," said Shepard.

Sacramento is now 28-36, while Jersey City is 33-31.
