Redlegs Topple Brass with Late Rally

Baton Rouge got a terrific game from right fielder Stephen Goldobenko. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Sacramento, 7-6. Goldobenko was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 3-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. José Valdéz earned the save for Sacramento, his 6th. The 7th-place Redlegs have won 4 straight.
Sacramento used the timely hitting of Rod Shortall to capture the win. The left fielder socked a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Redlegs ahead, 7-6. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"We take it day by day here," said Shortall, "and today was a good one for us."
