Irving starter Tim Wallace had a strong outing against the Yakima Hops at Blue Sox Ballpark. The left-hander was a big part of his team's 4-2 win. In 5 innings, Wallace surrendered 2 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 3. He allowed 2 runs. Bob Bolen was called on to finish, recording his 2nd save.
Jorge Mateu had a big run-scoring single for the Blue Sox in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Irving leading 3-2 and a runner on 2nd, he got a curveball from Félix Aiza and stroked the single to left. It was his 27th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Blue Sox ahead, 4-2.
"I thought we played a nice game," Mateu told the Irving Times. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
Irving is now 6-16, Yakima 10-12.
