For the home crowd, it was a thrilling walk-off win.

The Sacramento Redlegs did just enough to sneak past the Jersey City Tritons, 6-5, at Sacramento Sanitation Station. Sacramento left fielder Rod Shortall earned player of the game honors. Sacramento reliever José Valdéz picked up the win, upping his record to 1-2. Ramiro Valdés took the loss.

Shortall contributed a big hit, a 2-run single, for Sacramento in the bottom of the ninth. With his team trailing 5-4, Shortall took a knuckle curve from Ramiro Valdés and stroked the single to center. His 22nd hit of the season allowed the Redlegs to leap in front, 6-5.

"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Shortall.

The 8th-place Redlegs improved to 10-15.
