The Durham Rapiers downed the Virginia Beach Whales, 9-2, at Rapiers Ballpark. The Rapiers were led by Lonnie Baker, who captured player of the game honors. He went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Héctor Marroquín got the win, improving to 1-0. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 3 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 3 and walking 1. With the loss, Virginia Beach falls to 2-3.
