Rainbow Mermaids Raise Rally Flag, Beat New Orleans, 5-2

Northern Virginia got a strong outing from Ricardo García as the Rainbow Mermaids defeated the New Orleans Voodoo, 5-2, at Atlantica. García got the win, improving to 2-2. He allowed 7 hits and walked 1 over 8 innings. García allowed 2 earned runs. Yoriyoshi Sugimoto got credit for the save for Northern Virginia. It was his 1st of the year.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder José García came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing New Orleans pitcher Grover Lowdermilk, he hit a 0-2 slider for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Northern Virginia on top, 3-2.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Northern Virginia manager David Lister. "It's usually not just one thing."
The Rainbow Mermaids saw their record improve to 17-17.
