Payling Touches All the Bases, Hits for Cycle

Chris Payling did everything he could for the Hollywood Shredders today -- literally.
The 31-year-old right fielder hit a single, a double, a triple and a home run for the Shredders, going for the cycle and helping them get past the Portland Evergreens, 7-4, at The Hollywood Bowl.
"Yeah, I was some kind of hitter in this game," Payling reflected later. "It was like all I had to do was close my eyes and swing the bat."
In a game headed for the record books, Payling banged out 4 hits in 4 at-bats and totaled 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Speaking with the press about the feat, he attributed it to "a lot of luck."
"A triple is so hard to hit," he said. "To just decide to get one in a game when you need it for a cycle, it's impossible. Usually something weird has to happen, the ball kicking past an outfielder or somebody falling down. There's a ton of luck in hitting for a cycle."
Chris Payling tripled in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, hit a two-run single in the 5th and hit a solo-shot off Raúl Romero in the 8th.
Posting a .253 batting average to date, Payling has 1 home run and 7 RBIs.
