Silver Sox Lose to Battery, 7-3
|
The Charleston Battery topped the Chicago Silver Sox, 7-3, in United States Premier League action at Charleston Armory. The player of the game was Charleston pitcher Melvin Tiburcio. Tiburcio, now 3-2, was the winner. In 8.1 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 2, walking 0, and allowing 2 earned runs. Charleston is now 16-12, while Chicago is 12-16.
The Battery got a big at-bat from designated hitter Júlio Salazar. For the game, Salazar went 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 5th home run of the season gave Charleston a 4-2 lead.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Tiburcio. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
