The Austin Black Mambas picked up a win at Pride Park, knocking off the Hartford Pride, 3-2. Starting pitcher Joel Walden, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Walden went 7.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 0, and struck out 8. His record improves to 2-0. Craig Wash earned the save for Austin, his 1st of the year.
Austin used the clutch hitting of Kamakakoa Kaponianani to capture the win. The center fielder drilled a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth inning to give the Black Mambas the lead, 3-1. For the game, Kaponianani had 1 single and 1 double in 4 at-bats.
"We had a good game plan," Walden said, "and we were able to execute it."
The Black Mambas raised their record to 5-5.
