Evergreens Rally to Eke Out Win
|
The Evergreens had to overcome a fine effort from Boston pitcher Nicky Bogdan to grab a narrow 3-2 win at Dunkin Donuts Park. Bogdan went 6.1 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. Raúl Romero picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 3-1. Jorge Gil was tagged with the loss. The save went to Seong-hyeon Yi, his 1st this season.
Portland used the timely hitting of Ichiyo Kiyomizu to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Evergreens on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Winning is the only thing that really matters," Kiyomizu told the Portland Herald. "If you can win without even breaking a sweat, more power to you."
With the win, Portland goes to 12-13, while the Patriots fall to 15-10.
