Rainbow Mermaids Come Back Late to Clip Battery
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids defeated the Charleston Battery, 7-5, at Atlantica today. Leading the charge for Northern Virginia was first baseman Rylen Roersma. He went 1 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Northern Virginia reliever Yoriyoshi Sugimoto got the win, raising his record to 2-1. Branlyn Jaraba was tagged with the loss. With the win over Charleston, the Rainbow Mermaids improved to 12-11.

The Rainbow Mermaids were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth when designated hitter Richard Trevithick turned a 1-1 sinker from Branlyn Jaraba into a 3-run home run. The walk-off home run sent a roar through the crowd and gave Northern Virginia a thrilling 7-5 win.

"You work hard, day in and day out, hoping to give the fans something to cheer about. Today was a good day," Roersma told the Northern Virginia Times.
