Neváres Goes 5-for-6
Thursday, September 1st, 2039
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-6 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Juan Neváres, it came around today.
The 18-year-old shortstop scattered hits all over Beaver Town to pace the Greenport Harbor Whales to a 18-6 victory over the Northwest Territory Beavers.
Northwest Territory skipper Tom Carlson told reporters in the press room that "Neváres deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Neváres hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
Juan Neváres grounded out in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 6th, singled in the 7th, hit an RBI single in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.
Neváres is hitting .294 this season with 5 home runs, 35 RBIs and 31 runs scored. He has 68 hits in 231 at-bats.
