Reefers Held Hitless by Messer Tuesday, August 16th, 2039 Belleville Bulls starter Jacob Messer said he was standing behind the mound when the scoreboard caught his eye, confirming what he already knew: He was one out from a no-hitter. For a couple of seconds, he didn't move. "I took a breath and told myself 'This is the last one,'" Messer recalled. The right-hander collected himself, got the final out, and finished one of the greatest performances of his career. The Belleville right-hander no-hit the Cape Coral Reefers 5-0 at Belleville Field, finishing with 0 walks and 9 strikeouts, facing only 28 batters. "I knew for a while it was a no-hitter," Messer admitted later. "But I really didn't worry about it until the last out.
