Dirty Reds Lose to Battery, 3-0
|
Charleston played host to San Mateo at the friendly confines of Charleston Armory.
Charleston designated hitter Spencer Powell was instrumental in his team's 3-0 win over the San Mateo Dirty Reds. Powell went 2-2 with 1 run scored to lead the offensive attack for the Battery. Turner Shamburger got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2.2 innings. Branlyn Jaraba finished the game for Charleston and earned his 10th save.
Mario Álvarez was vital part of the Charleston win. He was 1 for 3 with a walk. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the fifth with one out, Álvarez hit a 2-run single. It made the score 2-0, in favor of the Battery.
"I don't lose sleep over a loss," said Álvarez. "But I have better dreams after a win."
The Battery have an impressive 53-31 record.
