Host Rainbow Mermaids Drop Pivotal Game , Now Trail Series -
|
On the verge of being swept and facing a red-hot Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids team, the New Orleans Voodoo had a tough assignment. Danny Trautmann delivered.
The Voodoo designated hitter was unstoppable for the visitors, as he was 3 for 5 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 4 runs and drove in 4 in guiding his club to its first victory of the series, 15-0. Trautmann, 30, was named player of the game for his efforts. The win means New Orleans now trails - in the best-of- series.
It could have been a different outcome for New Orleans, had it not been for Colm Goodwill, the slugging shortstop . Goodwill contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning to put New Orleans up, 2-0.
"I felt we were ready to go," said New Orleans manager Chase Sims. "Our pregame was pretty good."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Atlantica. The scheduled starters for the game are Ralph Greer for New Orleans and Ricardo García for Northern Virginia.
