Greenville catcher Ángelo Delgado was sensational. He was 2 for 5 with a home run and a double. He drove in 5 runs and scored once, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Northern Virginia beat the 84s, 7-6. Delgado was named the player of the game despite the loss. Brewster Warble earned the save, his 5th, for the Rainbow Mermaids. Northern Virginia, at 14-3, has sizzled in the early going.
Northern Virginia used the timely hitting of Manuel Carmona to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the sixth inning to put the Rainbow Mermaids on top, 7-6. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Greenville manager John Bosma. "But we decided not to take it."
