Almost There: Northern Virginia On Cusp of R2040 Triumph After 5-2 Win

Game was big. So was Eddie Kop.
The Northern Virginia starter rose to the occasion at Silver Sox Park today, earning player of the game honors after leading the Rainbow Mermaids to a crucial 5-2 victory over the Chicago Silver Sox. Kop threw 6 innings allowing 2 runs as the Rainbow Mermaids won on the road to seize a - lead in the best-of- Round 2040.
The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Jim Brown came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Chicago pitcher Eugenio Piñeiro, he hit a 2-1 knuckle curve for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Northern Virginia on top, 3-2.
"Every team in baseball loses," Silver Sox manager Brett Reichert said. "We're in the playoffs and we still have the same guys that got us here. We'll bounce back."
Game 4 is scheduled for tomorrow at Silver Sox Park. The scheduled starters for the game are Ricardo García for Northern Virginia and Valentin Calhamar for Chicago.
