Akron Blimps manager Barrett Abbott knew it was a gamble to give the start to a rookie. It was a good gamble to take.

Pitching in front of a hostile crowd, 22-year-old right-hander Forest Bell silenced the host Richland Rails at Rails Ballpark today. The Blimps shut out the Rails by a final score of 1-0, to give the Blimps a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-5 3L AA Championship.

Akron used the timely hitting of Pedro Guerrero to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the first inning to put the Blimps on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

Bell called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."

Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow at Rails Ballpark. Slated to start are Dan Burton for Akron and Masao Myoga for Richland.
