Bowties Fall Short, 5-4, at Oakland
|
Oakland beat Buckhead at Oakland Coliseum, eking out a 5-4 win. The win was due in large part to designated hitter Jesús Colón, who earned player of the game honors. Kevin Nogilny earned the win to go to 7-2. He allowed 4 earned runs on 4 hits, with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Earning his 10th save for Oakland was Larry Strozier.
With Oakland leading 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Colón hit a fastball from Paul Haines for a grand slam home run. It was his 8th home run of the season and put the Oaks ahead, 5-0.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Colón. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
Their 30-31 record puts the Oaks 5th in the Silver League.
