Hounds Clip Ducks 1-0 in R1 Contest
The Hicksville Hounds and the Long Island Ducks will take the SL R Championship to a decisive 5th game. Facing a must-win situation today, the Hounds shut out the Ducks 1-0 at Ducks Park to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. Hicksville right-hander Mike Hopkins was named player of the game in the win after a strong outing in which he threw 6 innings of shutout ball.

Hicksville used the timely hitting of Aloysius Szymanski to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the third inning to put the Hounds on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"I tried to mix it up, keep them off balance," said Hopkins.

The next game is scheduled for Wednesday at Hound Pound in Hicksville. Slated to start are Doug Ross for Long Island and Carlos Medina for Hicksville.
