Flyers Edge Racers 4-3 to Open R1
|
The Pennsauken Flyers faced a tough opponent in Indianapolis Racers pitcher Odmar van Hees, but did just enough to pull out a win in Game 1 of the 3L AAA Championship, which they now lead 1-0. The Flyers won 4-3 at Speedway Field, despite the Racers getting a strong start from right-hander van Hees, who went 5 innings and allowed 1 earned run.
Pennsauken used the timely hitting of Masamune Ueda to capture the win. The shortstop socked a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Flyers ahead, 1-0. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was an important one.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Indianapolis manager Ramón Pantoja. "But we decided not to take it."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow. The scheduled starters for the game are Fred Gunther for the Pennsauken Flyers and Wilson Alindogan for the the Indianapolis Racers.
