Already in trouble in the Silver League Championship, the Ft. Worth Cattlemen knew they needed a strong outing from their starter and good production on offense. They got one of the two.
The Cattlemen failed to put much together on offense and wasted an impressive 6-inning effort from left-handed starter Allen Werner, falling 2-1 to the Oakland Oaks at The Cattle Pen today. The loss put the Cattlemen in an even deeper hole -- they now trail Oakland - .
Oakland used the timely hitting of Jesús Colón to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Oaks on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Things broke our way today and that's great," Oaks manager DAshley GoAs said. "It's important, though, to stay focused and not pat yourself on the back too much. We aren't done yet."
