Game was big. So was Eric Matson.

The Charleston starter rose to the occasion at Lang Park today, earning player of the game honors after leading the Battery to a crucial 3-2 victory over the San Mateo Dirty Reds. Matson threw 9 innings of 4-hit ball as the Battery won on the road to seize a - lead in the best-of- Silver League Championship.

Matson was in the zone all game. He frustrated San Mateo hitters while giving the Battery 9 innings of quality work. Matson threw 96 pitches, allowing 4 hits and getting 3 punchouts.

"I'm proud of the way our guys played today to come out with this win," Matson told the Charleston Gazette.
