Battery Rally Past Lighthouse to Claim - Series Lead
|
The Charleston Battery took the first game of the Silver League Championship in dramatic fashion today, topping the Long Island Lighthouse in a ninth-inning, walk-off, 5-4 win. Lighthouse right-hander Rook Ellington was selected player of the game despite the loss, as he threw 8 innings of 6-hit ball.
Mario Álvarez was the walk-off hero for Charleston. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Battery third baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"It all depends on which version of our team shows up," said Álvarez. "When we put it all together, I think we're a great team."
