Almost There: Kingston Township On Cusp of R1 Triumph After 5-4 Win
|
Portland right fielder Fernando Soto pounded Kingston Township Knights pitchers at Evergreen Park, but it was not enough to keep the Evergreens from falling, 5-4 in Game of the Third League Championship. Soto went 2-4 with 2 home runs and a walk and was named player of the game for his efforts, even as he saw the Evergreens slip to a - deficit in the best-of- series.
Ed Mellor, who finished 3rd in the 3L in hits with 137 in 2037, came through for Kingston Township with a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth. The designated hitter went 2 for 4 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 1 run and collected 2 runs batted in.
"We don't have much margin for error now," Evergreens manager Brandon Slouck said. "We need to figure out the problem and fix it, immediately."
