Almost There: Northern Virginia On Cusp of R1 Triumph After 8-1 Win

The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids started the Round 1 in style today, winning on the road against the Cleveland Browns at Factory of Sadness by a score of 8-1 to take an early - lead in the best-of- series. Rainbow Mermaids first baseman Rylen Roersma was named player of the game after he went 2 for 3 with 2 singles and a walk.
Northern Virginia used the timely hitting of Tural Bishara to capture the win. The left fielder stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Rainbow Mermaids on top, 5-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but he made it count.
"Every team in baseball loses," Browns manager Greg Diersing said. "We're in the playoffs and we still have the same guys that got us here. We'll bounce back."
