Screaming Eagles Roll to 9-3 Win Over Ogres
|
The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles bested the Olympia Ogres by a score of 9-3, with left fielder Ricardo Varela getting the main credit. On the day, Varela went 3-4 with 3 singles and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Screaming Eagles. Brian Duncan, the winner, improved to 10-4. He held Olympia to 2 earned runs on 5 hits over 6.1 innings, while racking up 8 strikeouts. The second-place Screaming Eagles improved to 57-30.
With Mercer Island leading 1-0 in the top of the first, Varela came up to bat against Olympia pitcher Juan Rodríguez. Varela hit a fastball to center for a 2-run single. His 30th hit of the season put the Screaming Eagles on top, 3-0.
"We came out aggressive," said Screaming Eagles manager António Molina. "We came out swinging the bats."
