Passell Goes Wild, But Grasshoppers Win
|
Chesapeake got a terrific game from third baseman Charlie Passell. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to San Bernardino, 9-5. Passell was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 3 for 4 with 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. San Bernardino reliever Jorge Martínez picked up the win, upping his record to 4-2. Manuel Nieves took the loss. Juichi Kanno earned the save for San Bernardino, his 7th of the year.
San Bernardino took the lead in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, Kristoffer Melin stroked a run-scoring single to make it 6-5, Grasshoppers.
"I'm trying to keep it simple," said Melin. "Just do my job."
Chesapeake has now lost 4 in a row.
