Torres Goes Wild, But Submarinos Win
|
Germantown left fielder Vicente Torres was sensational. He went 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Amarillo beat the Uruguayans, 9-7. Torres was named the player of the game despite the loss. Amarillo reliever Artzouig Hreghen was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Luis Valdés took the loss. The save went to Joel Baxter, his 20th this season.
The outcome might have been different for Amarillo, had it not been for Ryan McCarty, the 20-year old left fielder . McCarty stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put Amarillo up, 8-7. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.
In postgame comments, McCarty told the Amarillo Today: "Do people still doubt I give 100 percent?"
The 6th-place Submarinos now have a win-loss record of 42-41.
